Dear talented photographers!

The call for submissions for Backlight Issue 9 is now open: the new theme is “Hit the road!”.

Hit the road! will be the introspective issue dedicated to this intimate urge to escape and wander around… In this initiatory trip to find something you’ve lost (soul? inspiration? trust? faith?) rules change : you don’t fear loneliness, you allow yourself to get lost, and you are open to serendipity.

In this particular escape, all you will need is a backpack, a map (or nowadays a GPS or iphone) and the will to forget everything else to just be here and now, on unknown territory. No need to be on a mythical road-trip, or to aim an exotic destination. “Hit the road!” is a mindset, an impulse to escape what’s pressuring you, to find yourself again. As the saying goes, remember “It’s the journey [that counts], not the destination”.

L’appel à contributions pour Backlight issue 9 est désormais ouvert : le nouveau thème est “Hit the road!” (“Taille la route !” ?)

Hit the road! sera un numéro introspectif dédié à cette intime impulsion qui nous pousse à nous échapper, à nous perdre… Dans ce voyage initiatique où nous partons en quête (d’un supplément d’âme ? d’inspiration ? de confiance ? de foi ?) les règles changent : one ne craint plus la solitude, on s’autorise à se perdre et on s’ouvre à la sérendipité.

Dans cette échappée belle, vous n’aurez besoin que d’un sac à dos, d’une carte (ou un GPS de nos jours) et de l’envie de tout oublier pour n’être qu’ici et maintenant, en terre inconnue. Pas besoin d’entamer un road trip mythique vers une destination exotique. “Hit the road!” est un état d’esprit, une pulsion pour échapper à ce qui vous presse pour enfin vous retrouver. Et comme le dit l’adage “ce n’est pas la destination [qui compte], c’est le voyage”.
